Choose ruled or unruled pages

Choose ruled pages if you like the quiet structure of lines for prose, journal entries or notes from a workshop. Choose unruled pages if you prefer to draw connections, sketch a setting or move freely between words and diagrams. Both options have the same A5 format and page count. Your choice changes the inner pages, while your design personalises the cover.

The inside has no preprinted story prompts, calendars or planning templates. A softcover flexes naturally, so open it gently rather than forcing the spine flat. Try your preferred pen on a small area first, especially if you use wet inks or broad markers. The cover design does not change the paper type.

How to personalise your author notebook

Select your page style and A5 size, then click Customize product. Choose Front before arranging the main cover. The gallery example is inspiration and is not preloaded into the studio. For the matching book crest, download the navy book-crest PNG, then upload it with Add a photo. The transparent artwork has no name inside it.

1. Place the crest centrally and leave comfortable space around its edges.
2. Use Add words to type your name as a separate editable text layer. A short name can sit on one line; a longer name may work better across two lines.
3. Add another text layer below the crest for “Writing Notes”, a project title or your own short phrase.
4. Select Back if you want artwork or a brief line on the reverse. Check both sides before you continue.
5. Choose Review, inspect your design and save it before adding the notebook to your cart.

The studio displays a 140 × 203 mm artwork canvas for each cover. Keep essential text and imagery inside its visible guides. The artwork does not need to fill every available space; a calm margin often helps a name stand out. If an image-quality warning appears, reduce the image size or upload a larger source file before approving the design.

Small checks that make a personal gift feel considered

Read the name once for spelling and again for spacing, capitals and punctuation. Check any pen name with the recipient if you are unsure. Look at the preview as a whole, then look closely at each line. The saved design is the version used for printing, so take a moment to confirm both the artwork and your selected paper option.

You can also upload your own cover artwork instead of the crest. Use images you created or have permission to reproduce, and avoid tiny lettering that becomes difficult to read at notebook size. A simple name, a well-spaced subtitle and one clear illustration can be enough. The studio supports your own arrangement rather than automatically replacing words in the gallery photograph.
